Private Garden Accommodation Near Lake Waikaremoana
Ready to explore nature and adventure at Lake Waikaremoana? The Tuai Suite is a peaceful, self-contained retreat nestled among fruit trees. It’s the ideal base for discovering Te Urewera’s walking tracks, fishing for trophy trout in Lake Whakamarino, or simply relaxing and enjoying lake views from your private patio.
The Tuai Suite is fully self-contained and private, with a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living area, entrance, carport, and patio overlooking Lake Whakamarino. Originally built in 1946, the suite has been renovated with modern amenities, soundproofing, and everything you might need for a relaxing getaway.
Te Urewera walking tracks are just 1 km away, and the small town of Wairoa is around one hour’s drive on winding roads. Napier and Gisborne are approximately two hours away by car.
The full kitchen is stocked with basic complimentary self-catering breakfast items (see below), and you may also find fruit or vegetables in the orchard to add to your meals. On occasion, the Whakamarino Restaurant in the village may open for bookings in advance.

Waikaremoana, meaning sea of rippling waters in Te Reo Māori, lies in the heart of Te Urewera on New Zealand’s North Island. With its shimmering surface, forest-fringed shores, and hidden trails, this natural wonder offers a powerful sense of peace and connection.
Short walks are a great alternative to the 3-day 'Great Walk'. Tramp less, see and do more. If it's the views, beaches, native trees, waterfalls, and other Waikaremoana experiences you're after, and you're happy to skip the checkbox next to 'Great Walk', then why not spend three nights at the Tuai Suite in comfort and explore Waikaremoana’s amazing short walks instead?
Choose from scenic walks ranging from 30 minutes to full day tramps.
